Hi I’m Zoë!
I’m a 16 year old girl who loves to ski. I love the feeling of it. The feeling of landing a new trick and getting that adrenaline rush. The feeling of flying through the air like I suddenly grew wings. The feeling of focus at the start of a competition run. I just love the feeling of skiing, and I know that I could never stop. I love the commitment. Constantly working towards my goals keeps me working hard. Knowing what I have to do to get where I want to be and also making it to those milestones makes me enjoy the sport world even more.
There are many amazing opportunities that this sport has given me, one of them being meeting so new people. We often travel a lot for competitions which means that I have met so many people from different parts of the world on the way. This means that I have gained such an interest in learning about new cultures and their languages, and of course trying all of their yummy food.
Languages has always been an important part of my life. At home I speak derlish (Dutch German and English). Both of my parents are Dutch. At school I speak Swiss German and German and my first language is English. I’m also almost fluent in Chinese as I lived in Singapore the first ten years of my life and went to SAIS (Stamford American International School). My last three years at that school, I went to a bilingual class where we had half of our classes in Chinese. After moving back to Switzerland I didn’t want to stop learning Chinese, so now I have online classes twice a week.
Another thing I learnt in Singapore is skateboarding. In my family skateboarding is called the mother of all freestyle sports. So I will never stop skateboarding. Due to this passion, I am also in the Swiss skateboard team which means that I travel once a week to Winterthur to train. Skateboarding is like my escape. It’s when I can turn of my thoughts and just enjoy.
In the year of 2023 I had to stop skiing. I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus doing a switch 720 over the big air in Davos. Those 11 months were definitely a journey. I learned a lot mentally and physically. I taught myself how to cook and paint. I learnt how to deal with though times and setbacks, and I started to enjoy going to the gym for myself but also my rehabilitation.
My goals in life are to go to the Olympics, get invited to the X-Games, compete at the World Championships, film a ski movie, start a podcast about female skiing and much, much more.
Well… Thats a little bit about me and my life 🙂
